Karabo
currently works as an arts, literature and lifestyle journalist in
print and radio broadcast media. Most will know her as a presenter
on SAfm Literature (Sundays 1pm to 4pm), which she has been
hosting for the past three years and more recently on SAfm’s
Afternoon Talk (weekdays 2pm to 4pm). She also hosted Art Matters
on the same radio station for six months.
Karabo’s
professional background includes written articles for Afropolitan
Magazine, YMag and The Weekender. She has also worked in
publishing (Jacana Media) as a marketing and events co-ordinator.
Her radio career spans 6 years, having started her career at Radio
Islam (Southern Gauteng on MW 1548), Channel Islam International
(Worldspace & DSTV) and SAfm (FM 104 – 107). She has been
featured on websites (book.co.za, kasiekulture.com among others),
magazines and newspapers, most recently in The Guardian
(www.guardian.co.uk).
Having
interviewed locally and internationally sought-after artists, Ms
Kgoleng is ready to take her career to the next level. Hugh
Masekela, Prof Wole Soyinka, Ronnie Kasrils, Jay Naidoo, Sibongile
Khumalo, Sarah Brightman, Patrizio Buanne, Salman Rushdie, Ben
Okri, Andrew Zuckerman, Roger Ballen, Allister Sparks, Dr John de
Maritini, Antjie Krog, Andre Brink and Zapiro are just a few
artistic luminaries that she has interviewed over the years.
Karabo
is highly sought-after as a speaker on literary issues in SA and
Africa, with a particular focus on popularizing books and
entrenching a culture of reading in South Africa. She is also
Board Member of Alliance Francaise Johannesburg where she
contributes to art development in the city. Recently Karabo
engaged the French media on the role that art plays in South
African society. She has been published in the Languedoc region in
the south of France and has also made television appearances in
that country. In 2010, Karabo was profiled by Nobel Laureate Prof.
Wole Soyinka on BBC Radio 4 discussing literature in South Africa
and was invited to the London Book Fair as a guest speaker. She
has been published in the UK Publishers’ Digest and has been
interviewed by The Guardian UK on her views on arts and culture in
South Africa.
A
young, passionate and rather philosophical South African,
Karabo’s interests (apart from reading compulsively) include a
vast music collection, art and anything to do with fostering a
world-class SA lifestyle. Through the media, Karabo is seriously
committed to building a country in which all its inhabitants can
find pleasure in learning, fully appreciate the value of the arts
in society and realize their potential. Ms Kgoleng is featured in
the Mail & Guardian Book of South African Women 2009 for her
contribution to Arts and Culture in South Africa and is one of the
Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans to take to lunch. She
