Loftus
Marais was born in 1982. He grew up in Paarl in the Western Cape
and received his MA in Creative Afrikaans Writing cum laude at the
Univeristy of Stellenbosch in 2007. His poetry has already been
published in Nuwe stemme 3, My ousie is 'n blom, Tydskrif vir
letterkunde and the new Groot
Verseboek.
As freelance journalist he has also published numerous
literature-related artciles in a variety of publications. His
debut collection of verse, Staan in die algemeen nader aan
vensters, was published in 2008 and was awarded the Eugène Marais
Prize, the University of Johannesburg Debut Prize, the Ingrid
Jonker Prize and the Protea Prize for Poetry.
